Vanishing Points
by Alice Deusser ©2009
Why do people retreat from public life and return to nature? Is it a conscious aspiration to attain an independent and self-defined life or are they social misfits with a genetic disposition to be outsiders? What do their shelters look and who could live in them? Eight large photographs show accommodations that have either been designed especially for this project or have accidentally been found. These individual refuges mainly exist at the fringes of cities, on the fringe between civilisation and wilderness and each home tells the story of the person using it.
