»The most dainty and pure little town in the world«

by Kathrin Polikeit © 2011

Actually every place deserves its own set of maps: there is always more than one map that is »right«. Every place allows for an infinite number of drawings to form maps. Therefore I started drawing maps of Offenbach, »my town«: There’s the map of religious places, the one for heavy drinking, for noise, for homesickness, for personal memories – if you ask two people to describe the same town they will come up with very different images which may overlay each other but will never be identical. There is no plan to draw a final image of Offenbach, but to show its different versions and perspectives and to also highlight the many maps that have been left undone. These maps and data are an invitation to learn more about the city – to mentally dive into a map and compare it with your personal map of Offenbach or to take one up and to go walking in Offenbach, discovering more places, people, smells and moments.
