»Cards of fate«

Manipulations are ubiquitous. We are surrounded by people and media trying to influence us and we are forced to examine each new piece of information to find our path through a quickly changing society. Nowadays many people are looking for help and advice thrugh astrology or palm reading. They have their fortunes told or horoscopes laid out and let themselves be calmed or frightened or manipulated in this way. The advice they get is often devoid of facts, arbitrary and generic: it could relate to any person or situation. Its seriousness and credibility is therefore dubious, especially when there is money involved. Funk's tarot cards play with advice like that. They juggle flippantly with banalities and insane suggestions from horoscopes. Each sentence and every face looking wide-eyed and hypnotically at the user refers visually and content-wise to traditional tarot cards (eg. “The World”, “The Empress“). It is actually possible to use these cards for fortune telling or decision making. They may help to reflect on certain situations or to find solutions for problems. But their naive and ironic look will still remind the player to remain critical and to think and act independently.
